JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – South African industrial group Barloworld expects Chinese and Russian demand for resources to underpin growth for equipment such as forklifts and trucks, its chief executive told Reuters in an interview.

Worries about slowing demand from the world’s second-largest economy have hit commodities and led miners to defer spending plans. Yet Clive Thompson, head of the $2.3 billion equipment supply company, said such fears may be overblown.

“Chinese demand has moderated and that has led to a pullback in some commodity prices in recent months, but I do think the long-term fundamentals remain solid,” he said.

Barloworld on Monday posted a 70 percent rise in first-half profit, lifted by strong demand from miners, particularly in Russia.

“In Russia, the strong activity levels experienced in the first half are expected to be exceeded in the second half. This is underpinned by … continued demand for commodities and
Click on the Link to read more: http://af.reuters.com/article/investingNews/idAFJOE84K02320120521

The Nigeria Football Federation has congratulated Nigeria international midfielder John Mikel Obi for winning the UEFA Champions League title with English Premiership club Chelsea in Munich on Saturday night.

NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari said yesterday that Mikel Obi is a pride to the Nigerian nation, and deserves plaudits from all and sundry not only for his club’s victory, but for his personal commitment and high performance in the campaign.

Maigari said: “We are all very proud of Mikel Obi, and we congratulate him for this sweet victory. More gladdening is the fact that he was not a docile member of the team, or a bench-warmer. He was very active and played his part brilliantly in ensuring a magnificent triumph for Chelsea.

“The whole nation should praise the young man. He fought hard and showed dedication all through the campaign and in the process, lifted our country’s name high in international football,” said
Click on the Link to read more: http://allafrica.com/stories/201205210036.html

The Reds were too strong for a gallant MTN Lions side in Brisbane on Saturday morning as the defending Vodacom Super Rugby champions won by 34-20. With 25 minutes left, the game was basically over as a contest as the home team raced to a 28-point lead, but the team from Johannesburg never gave up and scored two well-worked tries in the final 20 minutes to close the gap on the score board by 14 points.

They also played reasonably well in the first half, but the MTN Lions were effectively put away in the first 15 minutes after the break as the Reds upped the pace to score three quick tries, racing from a half-time lead of 13-6 to 34-6 in after 55 minutes.

Those three tries – by Saia Faingaa, Chris Feauai-Sautia and Will Genia – not only sealed a bonus point for the Reds, but also put to bed
Click on the Link to read more: http://www.thesportscampus.com/2012052021363/rugby/vodacom-super-rugby-round-13-review-reds-34-20-mtn-lions

“It amputated the man’s right leg at the hip – there were no other injuries.

He said that the beach was a popular body boarding and surfing spot, and there

“Following the incident, there were a number of other sharks shopped in the
